Default Feeling a bit useless

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what the best thing to do for my two year old robo The Cloud is. I posted last week about his ligament damage as diagnosed by the vet, and have left him to rest as instructed. Well that is as much as he will rest. I took out his wheel, but I put it back in as he was leaping about all over the place in frustration which was probably making things worse. He has short wheels instead and then goes back to resting.

I think I'm feeling useless mostly as I don't actually know how he's feeling or what the best thing to do for him is. He's lost most of the fur on his back leg and up the side where he's hurt, he's also lost some the otherside underneath but not nearly as much. I'm not sure if he's pulling it out to try and get rid of the pain as he doesn't know any better, of whether it has come out. His skin underneath is very dark still, so in three weeks now he's still very very purple.

He is sleeping a lot, but he does seem able to move freely too which is where I'm confused. He climbs things, has a little wheel, and walks all over his cage, I'd have thought if he was really bad he couldn't, and yet the vet said it was a very bad injury to the point that if he was young they'd amputate. I know hamsters don't really show pain, so perhaps he's just keeping going. Obviously the thought of him in pain distresses me, but how do I know if he is and whether to medicate? He doesn't roll in his sand at all though at the moment, and that is usually one of his favorite things.

He is eating and drinking fine, but he is very very agressive and unsettled. If he senses anything near his cage he's up straight away and looking, and it takes him a long time to settle back down. Do you think this is a sign he's struggling and therefore feels vunerable?

I actually don't know what the best thing to do is. I feel bad if I leave him as it's not his fault, but if I get him out he's running about when he's meant to be resting which makes me feel just as bad. I've just had a little peep at him and he's on his side sleeping with his sore side ontop. He does this a lot at the moment. He's making lots of little squeaks in his sleep. So yeah, feeling a bit useless really

Unfortunately apart from keeping him comfortable, there isn't a lot you can do
They are little fighters and your probably quite right that he is hiding any pain, as they would in the wild.

I would just say...spoil him You can make him feel loved (even if he is a grumpy old man ) And I'm sure even this will make him feel better

Best wishes to you both x
