Default Weak kidneys?

Back again with a seperate Daisy question

just recently she has had a bit of a wet area around her tail - its not blood, not puss, and she smells her normal smell. I am inclined to think it is wee.

She is weeing a little bit more, but not excessive and about the same amount as Mo did when she was the same age. It's difficult to monitor her drinking as she has a bowl, but she is not drinking excessively I believe - she doesnt drink when she is up with me of an evening, and when I have seen her drink during the day she takes about the same amount in as my new girl darcey would.

Daisy is 20 months old now, and has been showing her age recently - stiffer back legs and not so brilliant coat - I am wondering if her kidneys are slowing down? I have read that can cause a damp bottom

Of course the worry is Pyometra, but She is not swollen at all, and I have examined her womb area which also seems normal and pain free when I touch it. Palpitating the area causes no discharge. The blood the other day in her cage made me worry a little, but I really do not think this came from her lady area, and there is not any blood in her urine

She's still getting up for a good explore in the evening, albeit a little slower but still as enthusiastic, and she is still eating everything I give her.

Could it be possible that her kidneys are slowing in her old age? Anything to help her?

I'm not much help, but I was advised to avoid too much protein in an older hamsters diet as it can be hard for the kidneys to process x

I took most of the protein out of Jams diet the last week of his life, and it did make a difference, the bleeding stopped and he had a good last few days. He was too far gone by then with his tumours to recover, but I would recommend it if kidneys are the problem
