If the wounds become infected you need to think carefully about her quality of life snickers.
I have heard of hamsters being given antihistamine for itching. I assume you have read Bunsey's article on Cushing's.
Bunsey did find the Johnson's tea tree cream calming and soothing however I guess it may not work for every hamster. What about a steroid cream. Has the vet suggested this?
Bless her little cotton socks I really feel for her. It is so hard to watch them in distress lke this.
You need to know in your heart when she needs help so hold her and ask her. I'm sure you will feel what she wants to do xxx

I'm definately keeping a close eye on her to see how she's coping, she seems to have brightened up a little - zooming around her cage!

What are some signs of infection?

Yes, I've read the article. My vet didn't want to prescribe cream incase she groomed it all off. She hasn't been to bad with the Tea Tree Cream although I've not really seen improvements . She had a Steriod injection but this caused the skin to flare. Do you think it's worth asking for the Steriod cream if an injection caused her to flare up?

She gets a little distressed when I apply the cream, I imagine she is sore. I think she sees that I'm trying to help her though.

Thanks for your kind words. xxx

The infected woulds tend to smell pretty awful and they do not heal. The edges get black and nasty and they ooze pus. I know you would not let her get that bad though. Antibiotics sometimes help and the wounds heal a bit but due to the illness they tend to break open again easily and re infect. Sorry to not give much hope here and I am so sorry any animal has to suffer this illness. It just isn't fair

I still have some antibiotics left from earlier treatment, should I start using them again? I've had them for about a month so doubt they'd be out of date yet?

I know, it's so sad that nothing can be done to treat this illness. Snickers is dealing with it very well, I'm sure she'll know when the time is right but she's a fighter.

Unless you think that she has infected cuts I would not use it just now because it does affect digestion which could make her weaker but the vet would be best to advise. See how she goes. x
