Re: Eye Infection?
Aww noo could it be just like a lazy eye thing? My hams sometimes had it but it would open again by itself. Does it look swollen? Or sore? Could the red just be from were the furs wet and skin showing through? Prob just water to be safe, I'd keep a close eye on it lol (sorry) and if it doesnt get any better next few days then pop to vets. thats what Id do anyway.
Hopefully its nothing serious xx

Re: Eye Infection?
judging from the pic his eye does look a little red around the outside, it could be his fur parting though or how its taken, also his ears arent pricked up which is usually an indication that somethings wrong (unless hed only just woke up when you took the picture)

Re: Eye Infection?
Hey Debs,
From the picture this looks like something that my dwarf, Winter, suffers from. It is an on going problem that he will probably suffer with for the rest of his life.
The vets prescribe him Fucithalmic eye drops/cream in combination with a mild human eye drops. Perhaps you could try the mild human eye drops. My dwarf is on 1 fucithalmic in the morning and 1 drops of a childrens eye drop in he evening, so perhaps one drop a day to help soothe your hamsters eye.
Alternatively the vets will probably give fucithalmic which works extremely well.
Anthony

Re: Eye Infection?
i had a dwarf that had this same problem, i just cleaned it with warmish sort of water. i dipped an ear bud into it and dabbed it on her eye. within a week she could open it again and was fine
