ahhh mites?
Just noticed Treo has bad 'dandruff' ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
I rememeber mangoandmimi talking about it, then eventually finding it was mites ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
I notice its mainly round the back of his neck, where i know mites are usually most likely to be found. Hes fine in himself though, drinking, eating etc.
I know this could be passed on to the others, so i want to get it sorted FAST!
Should i talk him to the vets or would an over the counter treatment work just aswell?
I've checked the others and they doesn't appear to having anything but should i treat them all?
Thankyou ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif) x

Re: ahhh mites?
Snickers has just been diagnosed with mites; she needs 3 mite jabs to kill them all off. My vet said that over the counter treatments are no good and do not stop the life cycle. All of her hair loss was on her stomach and bottom though? All though it does sound similar, she had flaky, dry and scabby skin.
It may be worth getting him checked?

Re: ahhh mites?
I remember souffle saying that a spray worked well, i'm perfectly prepared to pay for him of course, just didn't want to go spend money on injections if that would be cheaper.
I do wonder how he'd have got them though, i do have a dog but shes regularly treated for them. I haven't recently bought new food, unless hes had them for a week of 2 without me noticing :/

Re: ahhh mites?
I got Doc the three injection thing for mites... £15 a pop - total of £75+ (with the original fee on top)...and it didn't even work, he was still itching.
Hope Treo's okay!

Re: ahhh mites?
BRAIN WAVE!
I recently bought a new bag of megazorb as i usually use aubiose, he could have got them through that.
can i treat the bedding to get rid of it. I have a mite cage spray that i swear i've read you can spray into the bedding

Re: ahhh mites?
Oh NO! I hope it's not the megazorb!! I've got some coming on Tuesday!
The cage spray I had once was that you spray it on the bottom of the cage (and let it dry), but I don't think you can spray it on the bedding, would that not make it soggy?

Re: ahhh mites?
I have used megazorb without problems before, might have just been this particular bag.
Ok so i have treatments and ideas i've just read i should use whizzing round my head right now *takes deep breaths*
Right...he shows no symtoms of hair loss, and i haven't really noticed him scratch a lot. I'm thinking it would be best to use a mite spray such as johnsons mite spray on him and the others. then complete clean and mite spray the cages aswell. Then if the problem continues, take him to the vet?
My only problem is what to do with the bedding...i can't just chuck it away!
