Default *WARNING*Eye problem! ! Urgent! - Photos may cause distress

Here is problem! !

6 or 7 days ago, my hamster has swollen eye, i was thinking thats he his hit eye... After 2

days swollen place became

larger... Then i started to put Camomile tea on thet closed eye (later i found that thaths

mistake) and pics show how he

looked than.. wet around eye is camomile

Camomile didnt help, things got even worse.. below the eye appeared hematoma, ichor (i

think)

After more camomile ichor is broken and bellow eye appeared wound the size of peppercorn.

That wound has pus in itself ...

That time i found out that camomile is not good for hamsters (softens the cornea) and i

bought chloramphenicol eye ointment.

Ive been lubricate that for 2 days, and i dont see any improvment. Eye is bulging , He cant

close his eye and even when

sleeping.

His behavior is not so active like when he was healthy, but he still good eats and drink

water. Hes poo is normal...

I get him to vet and vet sad thet he has eye socket tumor (i dont know how tumor devlopt for

7 days). Now 3 days after he got

3 injects (antibitics), and health isnt worse, but not better. I still lubricate with Saline

water first, than

chloramphenicol.

lastes pictures

Can you give me some advice?

We really can not give any medical advice other then to say that you need to take him to the vet as soon as possible. Please keep us updated.

Hi and welcome

I am sorry that your little hammy is so unwell. Its good that you have taken him to the vet, if you are concerned that things are not improving or getting worse I urge you to take him back to the vet for a second appointment, or perhaps find a different vet and get a second opinon as to what treatment would be best for him.

He does look in a sorry state Poor little guy. I am not the best at medical related issues with hamsters, but Mod Souffle is excellent, Im sure that she will along soon and be able give you some more detailed advice.

For now all i can suggest is that you keep him well fed and make sure he is drinking and that he is as comfortable as possible.

I agree, if he's not improving then it's best to take him back to the vet.

I think your hamster has an abcess in the eye socket. It would seem that the best option is removal of the eye followed by draining and flushing of the socket, tear ducts and antibiotic treatment. This may or may not be successful depending on the depth of the infection but he must be seen by a vet again because this will be very painful.
Poor little mite It is best not to use any human or alternative treatments without vet approval.
Even if it is a tumour the eye is now not functioning and needs removed to relieve the pressure. Some tumours are very aggressive and develop very quickly and this is close to the brain. If he were mine and the vet were sure this is a tumour I would choose to give him the last greatest gift which is peaceful rest. You have tried your best for him and he knows he is loved.
I hope you get an answer soon and he remains comfy xx
