syrians poo unusually large and soft - not at all runny though
So I've picked Honey up from her cage - she has been running like crazy today (might be because our new hamster happens to be male and she is on heat ) and I've noticed that in her house is a pile of the biggest and shiniest poo pellets I've ever seen so I decided to give her a spot - clean, which is when I realized they actually look and feel like a slightly melted chocolate. She seems to be healthy, very active and eating nicely. she doesn't seem to be in any pain, and is very cuddly. Did anyone experienced something like this? I saw Honeys mum doing this kind of poo when pregnant, but...
Please put my mind to rest, all I've been thinking about is poo for last 2 hours

Re: syrians poo unusually large and soft - not at all runny though
Is there anyone who can tell me if it is ok or not? I'm still concern about this - they are squidgy and stuck to a wall next to her nest - they look almost like a mini human poo. She is on a dry hamster food only but the poos are still the same. Shall I take her to the Vet? Or am I being silly?

Sorry Katarina, I don't know either. Could just be a diet thing. Does she have extras on top of her basic hamster mix (veggies etc)?
If it helps, what I'd do in this situation is give only her regular hamster mix and water until she's back to normal. I'd keep a very close eye on her behavior and poos and if either worstens I'd pop to the vets.
Im not an expert though, I'm sure someone will post soon. Hope she's ok. x

Re: syrians poo unusually large and soft - not at all runny though
well, she hasn't had a change of diet, one peace of fruit or veg a day (stopped that 3 days ago) and fresh water. But - it happened the next day after I've attached a new toy in her cage (the hanging wooden bridge), or it could be the presence of a Male hamster I have adopted and brought home that same day. Now I'm thinking - is it caused by her smelling him and being on heat? although they say hammies get in heat every 4 days but maybe the smell of the male gets her to be all hormonal?? well... I will watch her and if she seems to be in pain or gets worse, then she'll go to the vet - she is now on the opposite side of the room then the male, so we will see!

Yep, I'm clueless I'm afraid. If honey's mum had this when she was pregnant perhaps it does have to do with hormones - sounds like a theory. Hope she's ok anyway and good luck with your new little one x

Yep, it is hormonal! she got back to normal now, although I've noticed them soften again now - she is on heat again. So nothing to worry about I'm so pleased!
