Do your hamsters make their nests in a house? If so, is the house open bottomed? Also is it the nest that smells or the whole cage? XxX

An open nest is best, or in a cardboard box that can be replaced each time. Plastic tends to get quite hot and stuffy and make the smell worse. If they pee in their bed then you will need to change the bedding regualry too keep the smell to a minimum.

If they are cleaned regularly and kept on a suitable, absorbant bedding which is quite deep they should not really smell the whole room out. Try cleaning the wee area every day and putting fresh over the area.
Do they drink and wee a lot? Hamsters with diabetes can wee abnormally large amounts and this can smell of acetone and degardes quickly to smell bad.

Thats a relief. Now you can just swap to another that doesnt have a scent and hay presto... No smell! Glad you found the source of that smell. XxX
