Exclamation Robo fall! Possible injury or shock?

I'm new here and I've yet to make an introduction post, although I do intend to! For now though, I have a question regarding the health of one of my new Robo hamsters, so I'll just try to summarize what happened (my apologies if this is long, but my summarizing skills are not so great).

Basically, I had the door to the front of their cage open, holding the little sand bath hut to look at the hamster in question (his name is Jake) who was sitting inside. Now, I have owned dwarf hamsters before although it was years ago, and it wasn't robovorskis, so I have no experience with this particular breed. I've done some studying and I'm still learning. I know that they are very fast little boogers, but I didn't realize that they would bolt out at me so suddenly, just from looking at them.

Long story short, Jake shot out of the hut and hit me in the chest, then fell a couple feet onto a cardboard box near my bed. I scrambled to scoop him up quickly, but it all happened so fast it's hard to remember exactly what happened. I think he may have slipped off the box to the floor (only about a foot drop to soft carpet) and then I got him in my hands but he escaped onto the bed, where I hurriedly scooped him up again and put him back in the cage with his brother. At no point was he stepped on or smooshed, I know this much.

I've had hamsters fall before and they were alright, but these guys are so tiny that now I'm worried about him. I didn't notice any limping or odd behavior, no bleeding, no obvious injuries or anything. He seemed to go back to normal, but then later he just kept sitting in the same spot staring off into space. His brother (Finn) would go up to him and try to playfight, and he'd respond and kind of just shoo him away, but didn't seem up to playing. After awhile he decided to romp around the cage with Finn and wrestle and get around a bit, moving and acting normally... but then he went back to the spot he had been sitting in. He ended up going to sleep, and Finn came to sleep next to him for awhile, but then moved into the hut (there's no sand in it yet, they just like to sleep there), but Jake stayed in his spot. I keep checking on him to make sure he's alright, and he's still breathing normally and everything.

Just went and checked on him again, and it looks as though both of them are waking up. Jake is still in the same spot, and cleaning himself now.

Basically my question is: should I be worried? Is it possible that he's just stressed or shocked from his little fall? I'm going to keep my eye on him either way, but I just wanted to see if I should be concerned about his behavior. I just got them both yesterday, and I would hate for something bad to happen to one of them because of my error.

Just wanted to post an update that Jake seems to be back to acting perfectly normal. Eating, drinking, playing with Finn, running in the wheel, etc.

I think it'd be safe to chalk up the odd behavior to stress or shock?

It must have been quite a shock for the little guy but if he seems better now then I am sure he will be fine. He probably wasn't expecting to go for such a crazy adventure

Robos are amazingly speedy arnt they?! They do tend to just fly off when you least expect it!

From what you described I think that he will be ok, even though they are small they are quite resilliant! He was probably just a little shocked and needed some time to get over his little adventure. Glad to hear that he is acting normally now

First of all, Welcoem to the forum
When i first had robos i had a couple of falls
It is a very scary experience!
But fortunately even though they are small they seem fairly robust

I never experienced any abnormal behaviour after a fall, but if hes seeming a bit quieter he may be feeling a bit bruised and sore.
Keep a close eye on him, i hope hes ok

Welcome to the forum. As others have said, Robos are very robust little hamsters and have high pain threshholds. If hes using his wheel without any problems, this is usually a good sign and I wouldnt worry about it too much. If he does appear to be in pain, they recover faster if kept in a warm place with added cooked chicken or brocolli to their diet.
