Healing thoughts needed for Apples!
Last night Apples had one of his breathing/squeaking attacks, but it didn't go away after 20 minutes like they usually do. We immediately took him to the emergency vet. She wasn't an exotic specialist, but she had experience with hamsters.
She listened to his chest and said that she suspected either a nasal obstruction or congenital defect in his airways, that had caused early pneumonia. He had crackling and wet lung sounds. He got a shot of Baytril and two days of oral Baytril. We are taking him to an exotic specialist either today or tomorrow to have him examined and probably get more Baytril.
The emergency vet's prognosis was guarded. We have seen a major improvement in the past 12 hours, and hope that he will continue to improve. He is no longer making sounds when he breathes, and is active, bright eyed, and eating. He is separated from his brother in a smaller cage, we are going to let him have his wheel for a few hours tonight, and monitor his breathing.
Please keep him in your thoughts! We are optimistic and hoping for the best.

Aww - I have been following Apples difficulties, but unfortuneatle dont have the knowlege to offer any advice other than what has already been said. I really hope that the specialist vet can get him sorted out, poor little guy . . . sending healing vibes your way . . . x x

Re: Healing thoughts needed for Apples!
healing thoughts going his way.
My rat stuffs from pneumonia so i have some knowlegde on it if you need to ask anything.
Baytril is the best thing for pneumonia, i have tryed lots of another anti-bs and they didnt do anything. when using baytril you should see improvement within 72 hours - not sure how long a course your little on is on but my vets always make sure they are on it for a week then have a check up to see if they should be on it for a few days.
The only bad thing with pneumonia is that the animal will have this for the rest of its life but it may not flair up again. so just be prepared that the little guy maybe on and off anti-b's all his life!

So after all it was pleunomia?
I cross my fingers for Apples healing! But Baytril is very good, so it will surely get better soon!
