Default Exercise

How long do you have your hammies out for for some play/ exercise cuddles etc??? Whoopi sleeps til about 10pm and often takes a bit longer to totally wake up. I won't go to bed til she had floor time which is normally for an hour half ish with cage breaks when shes lagging. Does this sound ok??? X

each ham is different- of my 4 some could keep going for hours!!

I usually give around 20 mins ball time every night/every other night and then if i have more time some stair climbing and running over leg time etc

if you want your hammie to wake up earlier start making some noise around her cage and gradually she will start waking up earlier.

sounds like you are doing fine, you can give a piece of cucumber or lettuce for refreshment x

Daisy usually gets about 30/40 mins in total each night. I usually get her out for 25, then put her back for a rest, then get her out again for another 15.

She's a tinker though, as she never stops for a rest while out - she runs and runs like a loon and doesnt stop and would happily go on for ages if I didnt make her stop. She'll only have a quick nap when back in her cage!

I have dwarves, so I treat them differently, I find they're most comfortable coming out for shorter periods, I don't have a ball for them, as I think they can just as easily run in their wheel..I let them walk around my room, but keep a close eye on them at all times, and don't let them go behind anything. I get them out often more than once a night, but they seem to prefer being out for little bursts.
I know whoopi is a syrian, and therefore different..but that is an avenue you could explore..maybe..10 minutes at night and 10 early morning..or something.

Half an hour sounds good
and you're right to give her rests (mine like to have a snack )

My boys have very odd sleeping patterns which makes playtime difficult!

Nevertheless i try to give them at least 20 minutes each floortime and cuddles a day minimum. Its normally longer and often in several shorter sessions (e.g. once for 10 minutes, then again for 20 minutes)

My older boy has 5/10 minutes each morning but he has alot to do in his cage and he doesn't wake up until 12pm (we have tried to change it he doesn't want to know) On his cage clean once a week he will have 20 mins!

From what I know, hamsters needs a lot of exercise and most of the pet hamsters love to use exercise wheels for them. The best kind of hamster wheel has a solid surface that either attaches to the side of the cage or is free standing without side supports than span the wheel opening.
