Hammy being sick?
I think Hammy (nearly 2) has been being sick or I'm not sure if its wee.. Its defo not a poo??
His eyes are fine and he is drinking/eating normally, also active.. Took him out gave him the once over hes fine, running along, no lumps or bumps!
But yesterday morning I came down and found white thick sludge in his tray.. cleaned it up and today I found a sort of white/yellow substance in his tray but it wasn't thick it was more runny....
Has anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Re: Hammy being sick?
Well hammies cant actually physically be sick - its to do with the way their digestive system works, so its not sick.
Hammy pee is quite thick and consentrated, have you checked his rear end and his man parts - no discharge or anything??

Re: Hammy being sick?
Nope everything is absolutely fine but it happened a few days ago and then his pee was back to normal and then two days in a row and never seen anything like it before! He seems fine in himself, but its just so odd, hes on the same food as before etc! Haven't actually seen when hes doing it but its there first thing in the morning!! Hmmm...

Re: Hammy being sick?
Mmm its puzzling . . . but at least he is eating and drinking and being himself etc.
The only thing I can think of that it could be is the litter disintergrating with the urine and its making it look a funny colour??
I havent heard of anything like it before either - but hopefully someone can give you some more info . . .

Re: Hammy being sick?
There is no litter/sawdust in there at all... Since he has had his Zoo Zone 2 hes been peeing in the empty tray you have with it?? Theres no sawdust etc just completely empty plastic... Makes it easier for me to clean though as I empty daily Only way to describe it is 'sludge' but it wasn't as thick today, but it was like quite a big amount, not just a tiny bit maybe 2/3cm?... Thanks though Hope

Re: Hammy being sick?
Hamster wee is really quite sludgey. Is it kinda a white/creamy/lightyellow colour? It will spread out as well especially if its not been deposited onto shavings or anything that will absorb it. It kinda reminds me of icing that you mix with water - in the inbetween stage of being really runny and too thick to spread on the top of your cake.
Check over his boy bits and make sure nothing is looking sore. Make sure he continues to have fresh water. If you were to leave the wee part of his cage, i think you would find after a while it would dry and would leave a crusty white mark (that you would then need to chip off or alternatively loosen with white vinegar). It sounds normal to me.

Re: Hammy being sick?
My lot pee in their sand baths so have never encountered neat hammy pee!
Glad it is nothing to worry about and all sounds normal
Pee is a nightmare to get off though - you may want to start filling the try with sawdust ot absorb the pee so it doesnt stain so badly.

Re: Hammy being sick?
Because its emptied every day, it doesn't leave no stains or marks
Its normally just runny yellow liquid... (I only pay attention because I'm tipping it down the drain every day, I've been cleaning the pee for the last 3 weeks, ) But it does sound exactly as you described like icing, Thanks for your help reassured me alot as I've never seen it before, so panicked a bit
