Default Losing Fur

Am starting to get worried about my Campbells dwarf - Princess...a few weeks ago i started to notice the fur on the top part of her back was a little thin compared to the rest.

It now seems it's much worse, there almost a bald spot just above her nose and the thinning on her back is a lot worse now - you can actually see her pink skin clearly.

I haven't got the money to take her to a vet, have you guys got any advice on what it may be or what I can do to make it better.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain and is her behaviour hasn't changed which is good but don't want her to lose all her fur or think it's the start of something more serious.

It could be a number of things!
Does she show any signs of mites? It would be unusual so if so she might be suffering from anotehr illness lowering her imune system.

But if not, it could be an alergic reaction to food or bedding, have you made any changes recently?

Don't really know what the signs of mites are sorry.

As for any changes, have recently been using Wilko Wood Shavings with their J-cloth bedding so not sure if that may be a problem.

Is it worth my trying a vitamin suppliment to put in her water??

When Shadow started losing some of her fur, I put Pro C Pribiotic Powder in with her food and the fur grew back in a few weeks

Hope this helps

Just went to Pets@Home which is just around the corner from me. They were out of C Pribiotic Powder but picked up Beaphar Vitamin Solution which contains Vitamin B, C, E and K. Have added it to Princess's water in the hope it will help her fur grow back.

Thanks for the help.

I have had a female hamster with fur loss and had a couple of threads about this at the time. I changed her diet everso slightly to the following:

3/4 oz of hamster mix, 1 small/medium floret of broccoli, 1 grape, 1 slice of carrot, small cube of apple, sprinkle of wheatgerm, 1 peice of tofu or peice of egg, 3 peices of dry kitten food,1 small (baby spoon) of baby food with 1 drop of oil mixed in (she has that as her starter).

The fur did grow back and when I initially took her to the vet she was treated for mites but it wasn't mites that caused the hairloss. Never did find out what it was but the diet definitely helped and she stayed on that mix for the remainder of her days.

Thanks for all your help as now Princess's fur is starting to re-appear after only a week of vitamin solution in her water, so relieved it's coming back.

Can you guys advise whether I should keep using the vitamin solution continously to prevent the fur loss from occuring again or just put some in maybe every 2 week just to keep her healthy??

I can't help with your question, sorry, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad her fur is growing back and it wasn't anything too serious
