My Daughters Sweet Sasha is Sick!!
Hello,
I am new to this site and am hoping for some help. My daughter's Panda Hamster, Sasha, is not feeling so hot . A few hours ago my daughter went in to check on Sasha and noticed that she was wet under her belly and her eyes were not opening. When I picked Sasha up she squealed, which she NEVER does, and her belly felt hard. In the past few hours I have kept her out of her cage and cuddled with her and just kept her warm and she seems to be coming around, I have also been giving her fresh and cold water which she is slowly taking, I think that she is doing a lot better than earlier, but I am still concerned, she is a very active little girl and all she is doing now is cuddling against me or sleeping in the away from home box that my daughter made for her. She is a really good girl and I do not want her in any discomfort what-so-ever. I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but in the meantime, I am hoping that somebody has gone through something like this and can shed some light on the situation. I just pray that Sasha pulls through this, my daughter is just besides herself as am I ( I have grown strangely attached to the little critter). Any help at this time would be appreciated and thank you.!!

So sorry to hear about Sasha, I can’t quite decide for myself what might be wrong with the little ham from your description. Its good that you are able to get some water into Sasha, at least it will keep her hydrated. You may want to offer predialyte in her water bottle, or a syringe if she’s not drinking on her own, this might keep her hydrated more effectively.
The most you can do now I think is keep the hamster comfortable in a quiet place until you can see a vet. Is Sasha willing to eat any treats or not?

My Daughters Sweet Sasha is Sick!!
thank you for your response, so far, I have not seen her eat anything, she did manage to get on her wheel last night for about 5 minutes, not very fast, but at least she was up and about, other then that I have not seen much improvement, I do have an appointment for her this afternoon so I will see what is going on with the poor baby, she is breaking my heart, I cannot stand to see an animal in pain or otherwise!! I will update as to her condition after her appointment today, thank you again. I will try the Pedialyte as well, I have a bunch of it!!

I’m so glad you are able to get her into a vet so soon! Hopefully the vet will have an idea of what’s going on or will be able to prescribe something. I can’t stand to see animals suffer either. My last hamster I had to put to sleep because he was suffering and wouldnt pass over on his own. Hamsters are fragile, when they get sick veterinary assistance is usually your best bet it seems. Ill be putting out positive thoughts for Sasha!

She was diagnos of a UTI and was prescribed anitbiotics for 10 days, the first few days she was doing well, but last night all of her symptoms came back full force!! I called the vet and informed them and they said it was just the infection coming out of her, we are still having to feed her water like a baby (cuddled in a blanket and with her water bottle like an actual bottle), but she is drinking like she needs too!! I just wish the poor baby felt better, I went out and got her a whole new cage and bedding just to make sure there was nothing in her cage that would hurt her and new food as well, so just cross your fingers and hope that she pulls through ok, I know that I am she sure is a cutie!! Thanks for your thoughts as well, they are appreciated!!

Is she actually passing urine? If so is it a reasonable amount? It is possible for hamsters to have stones in the bladder as crystals form in concentrated urine. If she does not improve she may need x-rayed to see if there is a stone blocking the bladder outlet. Some fresh greens may help if she will take them.
