Antiiotics and painkillers
My goodness a mission I believe. After her big op my winter White clo has to have antibiotics and painkillers. The said just hold her, put the dropper to her mouth and away you go. Not that easy though, she back up, poo's and refuses to take them.
Ideas please, I don't want her in pain or to get infection.

Re: Antiiotics and painkillers
My syrian was like this i tryed the method with wrapping in a towel and holding him so he couldnt wriggle free then put the meds in his mouth, but he wasnt having any of that!
there is a thread of a bit in wiki about how to do this i will see if i can find i for you.
I ended up having to scuff him. if you do end up having to scuff make sure their bum is resting on something i.e your leg so they do not have their full weight hanging. once scuffed they automatic bite on the syringe, so alot easlier i found.

Re: Antiiotics and painkillers
Try putting a bit of peanut butter or something tasty on the end of the dropper, and quickly squeezing them in when she's tasting that.

Re: Antiiotics and painkillers
The swaddling method worked well for me.
get a small hankercheif or flannel and wrap it around the hamsters body, containing their paws so they can't push the syringe away.
(It normally helps to have two people, one to hold one to syringe)

Re: Antiiotics and painkillers
We use the swaddling method and you can see it here for eye drops
How to put Eye-Drops in your Hamster's Eyes
Just put the syringe in the side of the mouth for the meds. We find it best not to dilute it as it is more volume to get in.

Re: Antiiotics and painkillers
yh you have to make sure its quite a small amount so they will eat all of it, my vet said as long as they eat it within 12 hours or something so i left the baby food overnight and by morning greedy guts Peggy had demolished it all

Re: Antiiotics and painkillers
Well, this morning went a little better. Lid off the cage, gave her a taste of baby rice, then when she like it I replaced the little spoon with a syringe with the end dipped in it. She grabbed it with both feet and first was the pain killer, she then hid under the paper towels to say yuck. Next when she came out and fell for it again, came the baydrill. She really hated it, her feet came straight up to her face and she started washing.
I couldn't see any on the paper towels and the vet said if it went on her she'd eat it when washing.
She's still sleeping loads, but I guess its only day two after the op.
Tomorrow I'll try a bit of banana, though she's never tried this.
