Default Winter white or robo?

I am currently hamsterless and would love another one!

In the past I’ve had three winter white girls and have loved each one. I have been so lucky, they have been lovely characters and I have loved having them. They were all so friendly and loving, so chilled, never once bitten and were brilliant with my niece and nephew (now aged 7 and nearly 5.)

However, I have always loved robos and wanted one. I am just concerned they will be nippier and not as good with the kids.

Should I stick with a WW as I have had good success in the past or go for a change? Are robos known for being very nippy and timid?

Default Re: Winter white or robo?

Like with all hamsters, it's a coin toss whether they'll be snugglebugs or want to be left alone, or somewhere in between. In general, robos are considered more 'hands off' than other species, as they are so small, fast, and generally more nervous than the others.

Simply for these reasons alone, I would not recommend a robo if you want a hamster that can interact with children. Even the calmest, friendliest robo might get nervous, and might get hurt (or worse) if it tried to escape. Generally, a syrian is considered a better choice, as they are larger and slower, but if you have experience with and prefer WWs, there's no reason to not continue with them.
