Default transporting a hamster

I would like to adopt a hamster I've seen on gumtree. Trouble is they live a 1 and a half to 2 hour drive from me. I read on the RSPCA website you should avoid transporting hamsters. It's a russian hamster or some kind of cross. It's quite young but obese. I am thinking of asking the owner if they can bring it to me by car as I don't have transport. The most I have ever transported a hamster in a car is about half an hour. It is of course Winter now too although probably not a big problem. If they want to do this do you think it is ok to drive a hamster in its cage this long by car to a new home where it will be well looked after? I don't know if it is safe? Anyone with experience what is your view?

Yes, I think it's fine. I have transported a hamster 8 hours before. She was fine. For hydration, please give it a slice of cucumber. Avoid adding heavy things that could crush it and give it a good amount of bedding.
