The front opening could be bigger. Ria Added a door in the top of her plaza as well as the front door

Re: Omg I got the call he's almost ready
I used the door of a small cage i picked up for free, cut the bars of the Plaza and attached it with cable ties.
My thread "Savic top door" explains it with photos. Sorry, i don't know how to link a thread in a reply but you can find under Housing on page 2.

Re: Omg I got the call he's almost ready
I know what you mean about the idea of bars - I'm the other way round I don't like to see them in a box behind a solid wall! Tank set ups look amazing and are much easier in many ways and it's still a good home for a hamster. I don't like that bars clang sometimes (although most hamsters get used to it). But I do like the ventilation and the fact you can attach things to the roof and sides. Both have their pros and cons. Mainly I like front access. I wish they had made the front door wider though. It's actually the same size as the door on the Hamster Heaven, so bigger than it looks - thing is the cage is wider than the Hamster heaven so it's that teeny bit harder to reach into the corners.
Once set up though I find I hardly ever have to take the bars off. In fact I never take the bars off!

Re: Omg I got the call he's almost ready
On thing to consider as well - if you wanted the substrate deeper in places (which you could have with the perspex sides), you wouldn't really be able to take the top off easily without the substrate falling out - and it would make it quite a bit heavier to lift off with perspex attached all round.
If it still had the front door it could make a better tank with front access, then you'd never need to take the barred top off (or would you just take the top "lid" off?).

I love tank style cages for viewability and I love barred ones for the ventilation and on a few occasions when I moved hamsters from tank (living world eco) into a barred cage I saw them sniffing the air which they really seemed to enjoy.
Both your set ups look amazing and your hamster to be is just gorgeous.
