Well I've finally reduced to tears. Since 6pm I've been battling to keep everyone alive and well. Got to 31° inside and 5/8 pigs started showing signs of heat distress (pancaked on ice packs and tiles, not moving or interested in food and breathing really fast). My one rat was showing signs of heat stroke (collapsed, wobbly, panting. If I'm honest I actually thought she was dead as she was facing away from me so I couldn't see panting and as it's dark and she's black I couldn't see breathing). Everyone seems ok now and bounced back quickly. Tucked into veggies and hay which is a relief. Rats have fresh, cold ceramic hides and a large dish of lukewarm water to cool off in if needed. I'm really keeping an eye on Splat (the rat who was in trouble), as it's still 29 inside. A cool breeze is coming every now and again which is nice.

So sorry Engel - it sounds really stressful. Did you see my fridge door trick?! It certainly helps cool the room. Or having a pet near the open fridge door for a while to cool off, in a hide maybe.

It’s certainly been a tough couple of days for all the pets and owners, for sure. Let’s hope it’s now passed and we can all get back to a more normal routine.

I was worried yest as Hams breathing looked really heavy, some ice blocks on top of the cage with ice in a bowl for the fan seemed to cool the room by a degree or two which helped. I was so thankful to be reading this thread and picking up advice. He didn’t use his burrow at all yest. He sat outside all day, sleeping in the tube with his nose poked out one end. He came to his door really quickly last night for time out and was clearly more himself as the temperature dropped a bit.

That must have been so distressing for you. I really hope today is cooler and you are all feeling more comfortable.

It is still 29c in my flat. Luckily Orko has been fine, it is just us who have struggled.

Engel, you must be absolutely exhausted today. But you got them through it. You're amazing.

Hope things are improving for you Engel,
Comet was up way later than normal, just as i was beginning to panic up he got, but not for long. he was obviously affected as not up for long as he normally is during the night, the night cam is great for stuff like that.
It has been a constant 28 degrees in side since yesterday afternoon, but it was the heat in the air that was killing me, that feels cooler now but still 28 degrees. hoping after tonight things cool down again.
Hope everyone else and their little ones are staying safe.

I know that feeling - hamsters seemed fine in the evening, but it was too hot to sleep last night and very headachey weather - I found it quite airless even with the windows open.

I did too. I end up getting up at 2AM to have a shower. Even today it feels airless still.
