Hi everybody,

I have just bought an imac cage for my very 1st hamster who I will be purchasing alter this week!

im getting a syrian and have been told the wheel in the cage isn't big enogh for them. My question is what size do I need that is both big enough and will fit? Im not sure the only pet-supply place near me sells wodent wheels so Im sorta stuck!

Hello Katie! Welcome to the forum, nice to see that you are getting all prepared before the arrival of your new ham

8.5 inches is a good size for a syrain hamster, anything smaller and they can hurt their backs. The large comfort wheel is a good size, but I have heard that they can break if your ham is quite an enthusiastc runner!

If you have your mind set on a wodent wheel you can order them from the internet - a few sites do them but they do tend to go out of stock quite quickly. Welcome to Lamp-Post Pet Supplies - Everything you need for your pets. is one and Pet Supplies, Pet Food, and Pet Products on Sale Now at zooplus.co.uk is another.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your new ham!

pet planet is another good stocker

Even though it seems like it on here sometimes, there are tons of other options! Its just that most of us like the wodent wheel

Other options include: the 12" silent spinner (it doesn't come in 8"), Karlie wonderwheel, wodent wheel lookalike (can be found on zooplus) and any basic wheel that is 8 " or above.

Another thing to mention is if you get a paricularly long haired syrian, certain wheel aren't suitable cause of the spindle. The long hair will wrap around the spindle.

I have just brought a Karlie wheel - not got it in the cage yet. Wodent's have a good reputation.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new little one.
