Re: Introducing Orko
Orko was up when I woke up. I waited for a bit then went over and sat on the floor talking to him. After a few seconds he disappeared. I carried on talking but he did not come back. I went to have my shower and when I came back he was back up. I watched him and then sat back on the floor to talk to him. He went in his hidey hole but came back a few seconds later. He had a quick drink and then disappeared. I know he is very shy but I am thrilled he came back out for those few seconds.
Seeing him in person is just amazing. He is so cute. I am wondering if he may have a hearing impairment. He has always ignored me when I talk to him and he is never bothered by the radio being on at night. A few nights ago we had thunder and he carried on running on his wheel.

Re: Introducing Orko
I find Robos impossible to figure out. Syrians are an open book in comparison.
It can take months for a Robo to react to their name. If you're lucky, they'll look up. They are very self contained, the ones i've met anyway.
Orko is making fantastic progress though. The fact that he stayed for a bit and come out again shows that he feels secure in his world.
It's possible of course but i don't think that he has a hearing impairment. Some hamsters enjoy music i've read somewhere.

Re: Introducing Orko
I have noticed that when my partner watches an action movie which suddenly turns loud, a hamster will meerkat and listen briefly but then carry on with whatever they were doing. It's almost like they're thinking "it's only that noisy git downstairs again and nothing to worry about".

Re: Introducing Orko
This is very interesting Ria. I can see why you find robos impossible to work out. Orko does not have any patterns. He wakes up at different times every night and does different things too.
I notice you said 'if you are lucky, they'll look up'. So this is usual robo behaviour then to not actually look at humans. As Orko never looks or reacts when I talk I put it down to his hearing. I have had 2 deaf animals and this is how they were. It shows robos are just very different.
I am happy you think Orko is making progress.
I laughed at your interpreting what your hamsters are thinking about the action films! Lol.

Re: Introducing Orko
Orko has not touched his flax sprays for a month. I thought he did not like them any more but this morning he started eating them again. If you look carefully you can see the seed keeps pinging out of his mouth. He really is so cute.

I didn't express this very well. Once a Robo learns or choses to trust and takes an interest in a human, then they will sit, look and listen more than other hamsters.
Scottie does that and i consider myself very lucky to be in this position.
Then there's Finley and i don't have much hope that he'll ever accept me as his friend.
He was out late last night while i was in the room. He sat on his wheel, squat and square just looking ahead. In my mind i saw this speech bubble over his head saying "GO AWAY!!".

Oh I see. Thank you for explaining. So if Orko bonds with me he may take an interest. That makes sense and is good to know. How lovely Scottie does this with you.
Oh dear. I could just picture Finley's face!

Great to read Orko was up when you woke and that he popped his head back out for an extra look, that’s really cute and extra nice for you to get to see him moving about his home. Let’s hope this could be the first of many other little ‘Hellos’ he makes
