I see that with my robos, princess and coco!!! they act like my hand is an enemy when I put it in to fill up their water/food, but a second later, they pop back out of the bedding to see what I'm touching/placing in their cage!

Orko likes tofu! I bought some for him and left it out last night. He ate it all. It was about half a cube cut into tiny pieces. We have grasshoppers on their way but so far he does not like calico worms or mealworms. My partner joked Orko may be a vegetarian like I am.

I spent time with him this morning which was lovely.

Aww, Orko is so cute!

You are making fantastic progress in getting to know each other. Routine helps as well. Now that you know that he likes tofu you could reserve it as a morning treat when you are around so he connects you with tofu (there are worse things in life, hehe).

I've never tried ours with tofu or myself come to think of it. I'm not vegetarian, i just don't like meat so may like tofu.

Is it in the fresh counter?
I'm off to Sainsbury's......

Aww thank you. You can buy fresh tofu but I bought it dried so it lasts longer. I will show you the link to the one I bought.

Oh! Didn't know it was available dried. Oh well, i bought naked, organic tofu from the chilled isle. Do i dish it up the way it comes or do i need to cook it for the hamsters?

How do i eat it? The way it comes in salad with a dressing or do i need to bake it? Excuse my ignorance.
I have eaten something that looked like it before but may have been halloumi. It didn't taste of anything though.

What you linked looks more appetising and looks like the frozen soya pieces i chuck into the wok when i attempt to cook.
What i bought looks like a white block.

Orko looks absolutely adorable, brought back memories of my robo Niko. Lovely little guy. There's a 'dwarf' hamster of some description available to adopt near me which im seriously thinking of adopting. I have a real love for robos and after my syrian, Mania, departed over the rainbow bridge at the end of January, it feels a little empty. (Even though I have guinea pigs, rats and dogs).

When I had Niko he'd eat mealworms but really enjoyed pumpkin seeds, in fact that's how I 'tamed' him. Would literally do anything for them lol. He had access to a water bottle and bowl. His bowl was a glass tea light holder that I managed to get from B&M for something like 50p (may have been on clearance). He had no issues using either. To begin with he did end up going for a little swim in his bowl but soon got the idea.

What sort of tofu is it? Some tofu needs to be pressed. I personally use 'Tofoo' as its pressed and ready to use. I like to make my version of fried rice. So white rice, 2-3 veg of your choice and scrambled tofu in place of egg. I dice the amount of tofu I want and mash with a fork, add a bit of salt, pepper, garlic, ginger, turmeric and some nutritional yeast. Garnish with some spring onions/scallions. Its delicious and I make it weekly. If you like a bit of spice you can add some chili. You can also just make a tofu scramble and have it on toast like you would with egg. Some people add (smoked?) paprika too.

I've seen some people also dice it, coat in breadcrumbs and bake until crispy (about 25-30 mins). I've heard freezing the tofu somewhere during the process helps but I've never tried it. You can literally use tofu in place of egg or meat so you can get creative.

I find it doesn't really have a taste unless smoked, so it absorbs all the flavours you add. A lot of recipes say to marinade the tofu for best results.

Engel, thanks for ideas. That's the tofu i got as well, tofoo.

How do i serve it to the hamsters? Just straight out of the packet?

I hope that you're going to get the dwarfie.

You are not ignorant. You have not cooked it before so you will not know. I see Engel has given great instructions.
