He empties his food bowl but must wait till I'm out of the room to do it, though I sometimes see him go for a drink. I know he runs in his wheel as I've 'caught' him a few times when I enter the room. If he's out and about, he'll take a treat from my hand, and occasionally I can tempt him into a mug to take him to his playpen, but it's gone from every day to maybe once or twice a week.

He seemed to start becoming more withdrawn after I changed his bedding from hemp to Kaytee Clean and Cosy. I was worried I'd upset him by changing too much too soon, but maybe it's just that he's enjoying it being easier to burrow and is content to stay in his burrows and have peace and quiet?

(Pic of his setup attached, plus a rare pic from when he actually shows his face!)
I feel like my boy, Neptr is the same! I made a post about it that I could hopefully regularly update as I progress with him (if any progression at all is made).

There is such thing as ghost hamsters. They avoid people and just want to live life undisturbed, all cushy in their cages. Not sure how old little Snowy is, but it might be too early to tell if they are a ghost hamster.

Hi again…sorry been super busy..thanks for all your replies…I read the advice given..I do have a night camera chesterspal…might do that…I tried that link to re size my pictures but it came up with an error…403 Forbidden…I managed to re size one picture of Snowball but he’s sideways to make it fit…

I can see I’m not the only one with a ghost hamster..I have never heard that term before…maybe because I’ve never had one!

Well last night when I was feeding him..I put a little box in front of his shoebox door with treats in it…he actually got in it and I was able to get him out for a bit..we had a cuddle and I kissed him and he was so gentle and calm…no stress..smooched about a bit..then literally climbed back in his cage by himself when he wanted to go home!

I felt really satisfied..there was no stress and he looks great 👍 was lovely 🥰

Clean out day tomorrow so I shall definitely see him tomorrow as well.

Funny little things!

Thanks everyone…I’ve attached a picture..it’s not very good as I had to snip it so he’s sideways and not all of him.

Thanks for the reply. I think he's around the 3 month mark, but can't be definite as I'm not sure how old he was when we got him. Right after posting yesterday he came out and was really active, so I held his 'taxi' (mug) in front of him and he hopped right in and had a lovely session in the playpen! A few pics attached of him enjoying his toys - he pretty much ignored my hands but I did get some strokes. This is after 3 days of not seeing him! I guess he likes out-of-cage time on his own terms and will let me know when he wants it!
