Default My hamster needs an exorcist

The title is not a joke. Jaeger had a very interesting reaction to my cousin this evening. She came in when I was feeding Jaeger and the others. During feedings, I tend to talk to each hamster individually. It's a way we can bond and they learn the sound of my voice.

My cousin got my attention when I was in the middle of my conversation with Jaeger. When I turned to answer her, he showed us just how much he disliked having to share my attention. Jaeger did so by marching right up the cage bars, looking at my cousin, rearing up and hissing like a little demon. Kept it up for at least five seconds or more before he settled down again. Though I swear he just kept right on glaring at my cousin.

Either way, it scared the crap out of both of us. Though I was more surprised than anything, as I've never seen a hamster do that. My cousin was just plain spooked and asked me if Jaeger was possessed. I'm not sure if he is but when I'd gotten over the surprise, I can say it was funny as hell.

Haha, you have a hamster who knows when its his turn for attention and he doesn't like to share it.

To rear up and hiss is what hamsters do to fend off intruders or anybody that could be seen as a threat. Perfectly natural behaviour and nothing to get spooked about. He's only a little hamster!

I got the evil eye from one of our hamsters the other night because he appeared to be jealous of me giving his neighbour attention.

Jaeger has spirit which is lovely but he is not possessed by a demon. Maybe ask your cousin to wait her turn next time.

That's if she ever comes near him again. She's told me that she doesn't want to 'go near that wolfman you call a hamster' until I train him not to do that. Apparently she seems to think that hamsters are like dogs, which means I can teach him not to do that. Go figure.

Well, he has to live up to his name and pretend to be fierce sometimes. It's nice to have a hamster with a strong personality and looking cute at the same time
Do you have any photos of him you would like to share?

I've got a couple but they're not the best quality. Unfortunately for me, the only times Jaeger stops moving is when he's eating or sleeping. Otherwise he remains on the move.

Thank you for posting this. You literally made me laugh out loud - it was very visual! So - jealousy? That your attention was not on him but on your cousin. Or just a stranger too close to his cage. Or more likely - he was protecting you!
