There's a lot more known to prove lack of safety with river sand than there is to disprove the safety of play sand which is extremely widely used with great success and again, as I've said multiple times in this thread, once properly processed is incredibly safe.
Ultimately not all sand is created equal, and continuing to use river sand is absolutely putting your hamster in serious danger. This isn't me saying you're a bad owner, but instead urging you to see the reality of just how unsafe your idea really is. There is
nothing you could possibly do to make the river sand safe and all you're doing is adding far more hazardous things than a bit of silica dust - something I've already gone over which cannot be emphasized enough!
