I'm fine, YouTube keeps turning off the comments. I think they think I am a child!

I think a hamster's age when they come to us plays a part. When they are a bit older their bad experiences with humans can become part of their personalities and they may always be on the defensive.
They said Moonbeam was about a year old when I took her in. To be fair I think in one way she was quite tame, she walked out on to my hand as soon as I opened the shoe box they dropped her off in and was quite happy to come in and out of her cage from day one onto my hand. You just have to be careful with her because if she's in a certain mood, she will just chew your clothes and you if you aren't careful. She is less inclined to do that these days, but if you aren't careful she can catch you out. She is the only syrian I have had that sometimes snatches food off me and if I'm not careful she will eat me too

I feel like I am making her out to be a horrible hamster but she really isn't, I adore her and maybe she would be like this regardless of her previous home and sometimes I wonder if it's my fault!!! I swear on the whole she is a good little girl, you just don't know when she will strike in her feisty ways and that's why I never wanted her to go to a home with children.

I know her previous owners said she was placid but she has never been like that from day 1, i know she lived in a savic cage previously, the one with the tubes on the top, but she was an incessant bar chewer when I had her setup in the savic plaza, given a chance she would do it all night long for hours, with no reprieve and I also know they used an exercise ball with her.

She reminds me of a rescue cat of my friends that I used to go pet sit years ago, he loved being fussed etc but if you took your eyes off him for a second when doing it he would go for you. He would also attack your toes under the duvet in the middle of the night.

I'm not sure I answered your question!

I agree, the forum and YouTube are so helpful for learning and just seeing what other people experience, even if you are not a first time owner. As I always say we are always learning.

It sounds like Moonbeam is a lovable but somewhat unpredictable character who keeps you on your toes.

She's found a very happy forever home with you and you accept and love her for who she is. She's a lucky girl.

It really comes down to that when taking in unwanted hamsters. To make them feel wanted and give them a feeling of belonging.

Thanks Ria, i think you are so right, just want them to feel safe and secure in their own home.

Hamster Room update

With still sorting the house out after moving with a chronic illness and Moonbeam getting ill and then passing, the hamster room had become a bit of a dumping ground and needed stuff cleaning but I had ran out of energy.
Luckily a friend came to stay and now it is finally finished, and it's so calm and peaceful in there.

You can watch the video here if you want to see how messy it was and my friend working hard to sort it out

or, here are a few pictures of the end result.

Also, side note the internet can be a great thing sometimes bringing like minded people together. I met my friend over on hamstergram nearly 3 years ago, but first time we have ever met in person and she did all of this for me, what a friend.

Wow, I did not realise this was the first time you met in person! How wonderful. She seems like an amazing person. I loved the video. The room looks amazing.

Great hamster room and video Luna! Love the curtains too.

I need a big magnifying glass on a stand like that! Where did you get it from?

It's looking very nice. I like the bunting on the walls.
