Morning can be a good time to interact with some hamsters. I would have taken my coffee to the room the hamster is in and sat down and had it in there.

It may have put him off running momentarily but i think that he's settled in enough to reappear for some more.

I’m absolutely love it this thread! It’s super interesting to find out. I was just curious if you could calculate the mph time based off a time range your hamster is consistently in the wheel? I figured you’re probably calculating it from how long they’re awake for and the miles they did but I actually believe they could be faster than this as they won’t be in their wheel the entire time they’re awake.

I understand though you can only see short clipping on the camera but even if you know the time for one rotation and distance you could probably calculate and approximate mph.

I think I posted what you're asking... but here it is, again.

"I clocked him going at least 1 revolution per second or 1800 feet per minute. His speed was very consistent only coming to a brief pause for a moment then starting back up again."

That works out to 17.04545 miles per hour.

BTW: There will be a quiz on this at the end of the semester.

I will try that, yes, thanks.

Got a hunch he will scamper away but will give it a try.

That wouldn't matter if he'd scamper away. Most of them do at first but they come out again, eventually.

Oh I’m sorry! I must’ve missed this but that is absolutely fascinating. Thank you for your reply

So, the last two days he ran 7.46 miles & 9.76 miles consecutively.

Will only post back if he breaks his own record... but clearly he's using his wheel every night to a great extent.

So, to those out there who do not have wheel for their hamster.... you need to get one. From what learned, being prey animals, they're born to run to stay alive. The wheel fills that innate requirement.
