We where gonna get a white syrian male when we where at holiday a few weeks ago but sadly they had rehomed him to someone else when we arrived.
I know Shaun will get a great home with us, and I am very much looking forward to getting to know him when he is ready

Ah sorry, i have no idea what made me think that you are new to hamsters but i do have a very poor short term memory. You are well acquainted with our furry little friends then.
Did you have hamsters when your son was younger or will it be a whole new experience for him?

No worries! Tbh I feel kinda new in the game cause a lot seems to have changed. It has been about 6-7 yrs since I owned my last hamster, Fenris who was a hybrid dwarf. But I have kept syrians on and off since I was 10 yrs old (I am now 31).
Fenris died unexpectadly just months before my son was born in 2016 so this will be his first furry pet, we have had a Leopard Gecko since before he was born so the idea of a pet is known to him, just not one you can handle. We have talked a lot about how to behave when we get Shaun, and have talked alot about that in the start he wont be able to handle him much, but he will get to help fill up food and water. He understands but I think its abit distant yet for him. Tbh I think I am more excited about this than he is, lol!

No worries!
I have put the cage together, but I think I will go over the joints with some super glue, it is the hamster plaza, so I had to put it together myself. And honestly it fits very loosely where the pieces of the cage connects. Every time I lift it off the base the pieces who are supposed to hold it together pop off and the walls slide out of the corner pieces. It is getting to be abit annoying
Rn he has 56L of paper bedding, a Trixie natural wood corner house, the house that came with the cage(might be too small) , the shelf and ramp that came with the cage and two way to big food bowls. Lol!
On monday I am getting his 28cm Trixie wheel, 2 new shelfs, 2 bendy bridges, a cute wooden rainbow bridge and some wicker balls! I think after I have added that + some tubes from a hardwsre store, and got a little dish for his sand bath his cage will be completely set up and ready for him.
I am also thinking og making him a paper mache doughnut from some cardboard and TP. + flower and water glue ofc. Figured it would be a nice activity to do with my son while we wait for friday

It is! I had to enhance the pic a smidge cause it was kinda dark so his color might read abit different than irl. It is just a screenshot from a video the breeder sent me of him

Do you think the cage may be faulty? I hope it is not too difficult to fix. You have plenty of bedding for Shaun. He will love that. It sounds like you have a lot of the same items we have in the UK. That is interesting as I thought you may have different things in Norway. The doughnut is a lovely way of making your son feel included.
