My new hamster buddy let me pick him/her up if only long enough to get a weight.

Was not able to see the sex as yet. Next time.

Also took to wandering around the enclosure. Something I had not seen that prior to this. Must be getting accustomed to me and the rest of the gang enough to explore while we're all awake and in the same area.

BTW: Comes in at 92 grams. Can someone comment on how hat stacks up for a Syrian, please. I have no idea on age and the pet store was no help.

It's easy to sex a Syrian Basically boys have a more elongated extra bit at the back (that encloses their testicles). Girls have a much more rounded back end.

How long have you had your hamster? It can take them a few days to settle and a good two weeks to fully adjust to their cage - after that two weeks they become more confident. Best not to do any cleaning or changing things around in the cage that first two weeks.

She may be quite nervous if you have a cat and a dog around and she's not used to that. They have a strong sense of smell.

This past Saturday was a week. Agree it will take time.

Does not seem at all bothered by the other animals.

Even if you don't think your hamster seems bothered, it is extremely stressful and frankly harmful to them and predatory animals as well. Cats, dogs, ferrets, etc should never be allowed in the same room as hamsters and other prey animals under any circumstances - the stress is extremely bad for prey animals especially and can lead to higher chances of health issues, and it can sadly even become lethal. Plus, signs of stress aren't always so easy to notice!
