Default Human chosen by hamster

Has anyone else had the experience where a hamster chose you as their companion?

I went into a petshop once to buy sand or food but felt myself drawn to a display tank. The effect was almost magnetic. I put my hand in and promptly got bitten but one little hamster climbed onto my hand and sat there so I took her home. The little girl wasn't afraid of me and the bond was immediate. She started her life by sitting on my hand and she ended it by dying on the very same hand. I love all our hamsters but there was something magical about Edwina.

I’m so sorry about Edwina - she was very special. And yes we had that with our first hamster, Charlie. He stood on his back legs sp his head was over the top of the tank and came nose to nose with stepson and me and stood there and interacted with us. Like he was saying “take me home”. We had to sort a cage first and go back for him. OH then had second thoughts. Cost of cafes, vet fees space etc etc. Stepson was saying - are we going back to get the hamster? I stuck to our guns and said YES we are. Told OH he has a duf di we want a hamster. And made the space. He was right about costs though!
