Tuftyfluff hamsters still in business?
Hi all,
As some of you know my Syrian hamster passed away around a week ago, and as much as I love her and miss her dearly, I miss the routine and knowing how breeders can have waiting lists decided to message tuftyfluff hamsters.
I messaged five days ago now on Facebook and about three days ago via email. I also requested to join the Facebook group and have heard nothing.
I have seen people say Sue takes a while to respond but the images on her website are all from 2011/2012, I just wondered if anyone has heard from her recently?
If not, does anyone know any Syrian hamster breeders in Essex? Even tuftyfluff hamsters is one hour and twenty minute drive from us it’s the closest I’ve found.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Tuftyfluff hamsters still in business?
Hi Lilafermin,
They are still in business. I requested to add my name to her list back in June and heard nothing but 2 months later Sue messaged me about some hamsters that were available. By that point we had adopted another hamster so we didn’t go ahead but she’s definitely still in business. Agree that she is just a bit slow in responding - hopefully they will add you to the group soon and then there is a list you can add your name to and some recent photos.

Thank you hamster_newbie for your response. I have thought of adopting myself but the closest hammie at rspca is 220 miles away! I guess I’ll wait or keep an eye out for anymore adoption services.
I kind of wish she’d message just to let you know what time roughly they’ll be available so I can make proper plans

Re: Tuftyfluff hamsters still in business?
There are always plenty of hamsters looking for good homes on gumtree, pets4homes, preloved and freeads.
Many are living in truly dreadful conditions and have never known proper hamster care.
The bluecross adoption tanks in pets@home shops are another place to look at and private rescues advertising or individuals like myself who sometimes take in hamsters in need of rehoming.
Only thing to avoid are backyard breeders who breed hamsters for financial gain, even advertising them as newborns, disturbing their nests. Horrible, greedy people but i do feel sorry for the poor hamsters who still deserve a good life because its not their fault.

Agree - it can be very rewarding having a rescue hamster and see them flourish and bond with you Although I also completely understand the pain and anxiety when a hamster has died before his or her time - the fear it will happen again and wanting to have a better experience next time. It's always uncertain. There are pros to both options - by getting a hamster from a breeder it supports ethical breeding.

We adopted our Syrian hamster, Cookie, from Animal Rescue and Care based in Twickenham. Not sure if that is a bit far but they quite often have hamsters available for adoption. Cookie is an absolute sweetheart!

Re: Tuftyfluff hamsters still in business?
Oh I am sorry to hear that she is in hospital. I hope she gets better soon!
I have looked on preloved but there is only two near me and I can’t message them unless I pay for the full version because the ad is so new. I wouldn’t mind if I thought they were right for me but they have absolutely no description and I don’t want to pay to find out that they’re not right.
I have found freeads since posting the original comment, and have messaged some people on there but it says it takes 24 hours.
As said, I am worried about genetic dispositions happening again, so I am asking them where they got them from but I’m almost certain it won’t be from a proper breeder. Like all of you say though they don’t live good lives and even if an illness beyond my control happened I think I’d find more peace than recently since I’d have known I’d of given it a better life than it was living.
I did search twickenham and it’s a two hour drive one way which again is too far really.
It is appalling some of their conditions though. I found a new one on the rspca the other day where it’s one year old and it’s cage had been dumped with the hamster still in it in the rain. I was ready to jump in the car and get it, but again then found out it was way to far.
I have heard people say sometimes after a house check they can deliver even if you’re far, so I’ve messaged some rescue centres but no luck so far.
I guess I’ll just keep looking out and try some of the new places suggested.

I got my current hamster from GBH Rescue in Beckenham. They recently had a big rescue of pregnant female Syrians so they have babies and adults available right now.
