Question Water bottles

Hi, my daughter's new hamster has both a water bottle and a bowl, but seems to prefer his bottle. However, although this is inside an empty toilet roll, he keeps knocking it over. Any suggestions as to how this can be fixed so it remains upright? His tank is actually a glass aquarium so doesn't have any mesh to fix it to. She will not use tape in case he's a chewer. Thank you!

Some people use industrial strength Velcro to attach a bottle inside a tank. I’ve used it too. If done carefully there isn’t really any visible to chew.

Or you could make a different bottle stand. I made one from a 500ml spring water bottle. You cut the top off the bottle where it starts to slope so you just have the bottom two thirds. You cut a hole for a spout and you put stones in the base to weigh it down. I used stepson‘a polished stones from a gem shop! He had a whole load of them and they looked nice. The downside to this one is I found it hard to cut a spout hole that didn’t have sharpish edges with the plastic being brittle so that bit needs to be done carefully.

I do the same and use plastic bottles with glass marbles inside. The spout hole i smooth down with fine sandpaper. You can see a bottle bottleholder in this photo. I use bigger bottles with heavier pebbles for Syrians.

I sit water bottles inside these cubes.

The cubes are sold with fluffy bedding inside which you should throw away because it's dangerous, but the cube itself is fine.

The Savic bottles (smallest size) fit best. Classic bottles (75ml or 150ml) fit too but not as snugly.

Depending on what type of hamster you have you might have to sit the cube on top of something else so it's the right height for drinking.

Ohh! Those are fabulous ideas, thank you all so much, I'll show my daughter! Hamlet consistently knocks over his bottle so I'm sure she will utilise one of these ideas. That's great!

One of the main thing's I've learned since having hamsters is - having my own sandpaper! It's cheap and very handy - any wood items can have splintery bits or rough edges (and hadn't thought about sanding plastic before but good idea Ria). Initially that sounded like time consuming hassle to me - but it literally takes a minute or two.
