Question best next pet for hamster owner

so i just want to clarify this is not me saying i'm done with hamsters, i'm not! i currently have 3 still quite young hamsters and wouldn't trade them for anything!!!

but recently i've been thinking about what kind of next pet to get, i'm an animal person so most things are on the table (unless its something that eats frozen rats/mice like ferrets or snakes- i could never! >-<) and i'm just wondering whats the best next pet to get from someone who's v into hamsters and has had a lot, i'm rn thinking about maybe mice or perhaps a betta fish but there are like endless great options!

btw incase anyone is worried, i'm the kind of person thats not comfortable with getting an animal unless i feel like i know pretty much everything there is to know about them, so don't worry about me impulse buying

thanks!

There are so many different pets you'll have to narrow it down a bit.

How much space do you have available? What do want from a pet? Interaction, or more of a watch-only pet?

hi yeah sorry i'm just very open to most things lol, in terms of space i have quite large bedroom although i do have a lot of things, but i've been meaning to throw some things away soon so i'll have more space

i think i'd probably want a pet that i could have interaction with and a bond, and in terms of budget since i forgot to say that in my original post, it definitely can't be too expensive- i mean i can save up and stuff but i cant drop thousands on an exotic pet yk?

also i've been thinking about it and i think maybe since i have so much experience with hamsters maybe a rodent would be best? but then again i'm by no means against a non rodent

ik this doesn't narrow it down much but im just a big animal person lol

Have you considered rats? They're honestly wonderful pets. As far as initial setup goes that can be expensive if you're buying only new things although you can definitely set up a cage on a budget easily.

My only experience has been with gerbils, but it was fun experience. They're often awake during the day. I made a safe place to let mine out of the cage, and when I sat there with them they'd run all over me and sometimes sit on my head. They never bit me except for a little test nibble every now and then, no pain involved.

I "started" with hamsters, and while I will always have a special place in my heart for them, rats are more suited to my lifestyle.

They are more interactive, an "any time of day" pet so no sat by cage at 2am tryign to coax them awake, bit more "bomb proof" and the fact you can have a group means you don't feel bad if you don't get them out for a few days as they have each other.

As Amity said, the initial set up is a bit costly but I got a decent quality cage 5 years ago at a higher price and only now is it needing a repaint. Where are you based (just country will do) as some pets have better pet industries with certain kinds fo pets than others
