Default Picking up tank tomorrow; what else?

Hi,

I'm picking up a 40 gallon aquarium tomorrow for whatever hamster I end up bringing home.

I plan to also get a few necessities, the ones that any size of hamster could use. So not a wheel, and not a hideout. For the hideout, at first, I may just have a mostly-used roll of paper towels and a ceramic mug.

To buy tomorrow:

--A water bottle (I'll get an extra when I see how well the first one works)
--Food
--Bedding

Anything else?

Any quick tips on what kind of food? Since I'm in a different country from most of you, apparently, and the same things may not be available, can you tell me what ingredients to look for? (Thanks, over there, for running a good hamster forum and helping people in other countries.)

How about what kind of bedding?

I'll look for more information before I go, but I know you guys have a lot of experience of what actually works, rather than scientifically *should* work.

Most of HC is UK based but we do have/ had many members from all over including the US, it is why the replies to your threads may not be as instant due to the time differences

If you search US foods/ bedding it should pick up threads that have brands known

A cardboard box upturned and many items you have at home will keep a hammy happy

You may want a sandbath so so pet safe sand would be useful. If you have ceramic dishes at home they will be fine.

Why not browse the show me your cage thread for some ideas. Making up the cage is the exciting part!

Default Thanks; got the tank etc.

Thank you.

I have the tank now--even got it into the house without breaking anything, me or the tank. But it took some doing--it is HUGE! At least I feel that I actually received something for my money! Maybe I could grow trout in there some day.

I also got some food and bedding and a water bottle.

The next shipment of little furries will be in next Tuesday, and I'm going to have the aquarium cleaned and set up by then.

Tatty byes--is that the expression? Maybe none of you have ever heard it anyway. I love the TV show, The Great British Baking Show. I think that's somewhat different from the original name. It's the one with Mary Berry and Paul--Hollywood, is it? They've been rerunning that over here for years.

Haha Tatty Byes! That is an old one lol

British Bakeoff... not my cup of tea!

Glad you managed to get the tank home!

You'll find you change it around lots, they always liek to rearrange things and once they are in it you can see how they are interracting with it etc
