Default Hamster wheels in UK?

Hi all, I've recently been looking for a new wheel to be delivered, but had no luck.

I'm in the UK, and most I've viewed are from USA, which at checkout includes a ridiculous amount of import fees & delivery costs. I'm looking for a non-wood material, 11-12" wheel, not fussed about websites.

I've been keeping my eye on a wodent wheel on Amazon, but the price just keeps going up. If anyone has any decent wheel recommendations which aren't a crazy price, that would be great!

Thank you!

The Silent Runner is available from southwestsugargliders.

The Trixie wheel is available from package pets and other sites.

Hey I just purchased this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...b_b_asin_title

My hamster is loving the larger size thus far after I had issues with her wodent wheel which the spindle broke on while removing the cover to clean :/

It’s quiet thus far and affordable but I can’t comment on it staying quiet as it’s still a relatively new addition.

Hi Bel, if you've got the flying saucer as the only wheel in the enclosure you do need to purchase an upright wheel. Upright wheels are more important, flying saucer 'wheels' should only be used as an additional enrichment toy in their enclosure.

Is this new information the RSPCA have introduced? My hamster runs on her saucer just as fast and consistently as she did on her wodent wheel. She's long haired so I'm also happiest with no spindle - like the saucer.

Just because it doesn't state what kind of wheel doesn't mean it is suitable as a main-wheel, and honestly, with even a thing as big as the RSPCA, you still can't trust you're being told the correct or all the information. The RSPCA recently removed the requirements for how large an enclosure should be for a hamster which is actually on-going a petition on change.org to fetch back.

It is recommended by many on this forum and on facebook that hamsters should have an upright wheel as their main wheel and a flying saucer as an additional enrichment thing for them to go on.

Wheels - Traditional or Flying Saucer

Wheels or Flying Saucers? - Hamster Debate - Hamster Hideout Forum

You'll find a majority will state the flying saucer is an add on and not a replacement for your usual upright wheel - hope this helps!

Hi Imogen,

I've just read through the HC thread you linked in regards to FS vs Standard wheels.

Seems to be mixed opinion and only reason I can see given is some people seeing their hamsters run at a 'funny' angle.

Spidey is a small female hamster and with the large flying saucer she is just fine and getting her exercise.

I usually take an evidence based approach when it comes to making changes in my hamster care. For now I'm satisfied that her saucer is providing the amount of exercise she needs and have not seen her running at a 'funny' angle as of yet.

If in older age she ever experiences difficulty or evidence emerges that the FC is not a good choice then I will of course make the change back to a regular standing wheel which I have also used for most of my hamsters and also think are a great choice - as long as they're big enough!

Thank you for sharing your opinion and that of other users though.

I'll have to disagree and state that I don't think that's a good idea, but I guess we'll have to see what others think on this. Hamster Hideout which has a larger member base mostly state hamster flying saucers are an addition.
