So I had ordered some hay for the pigs but I didn't realize how low I was and it's meant to be delivered at the end of the week. So I popped to P@H to grab some hay for them in the mean time.

Now the hay is (almost) next to the adoption tanks. Someone was enquiring about one of the animals and I thought I'd be nosey to see what was there and noticed a hamster.

It's been really weird not having a hamster in the house, so of course I had to bring her home. So meet Mania! She's a Syrian hamster and roughly 5 months old. Her previous owner handed her in as they were going to uni.

It was quite refreshing to hear the P@H staff ask what cage she'd have and the minimum size they'd let her be in. I explained that she'd have 100x50 cage with 11" wheel and a minimum of 10" bedding (she has 14" at the moment). They were very happy to let her go knowing this.

Mania has one red eye and one black. Now I've never seen this before although I have heard of it. What causes the 2 different coloured eyes? How common is it?

(Meaning behind her name:
Ancient Greek - Goddess of insanity, madness, crazed frenzy and the dead.
Roman - Goddess of the dead and ruler of the underworld.)

I'll add a photo of her set-up. She's in the savic plaza. Mix of wood shavings and carefresh. Now I hate both of these but it's what I had on hand. Will be moving her onto fitch ASAP also will be getting her more enrichment and hides.

Currently lay by the cage talking to her and she's come right up. How close can you get Mania?

Mania looks like Bonnie, my very first foster hamster!
She also had one red and one black eye.

Those two are the only hamsters with different coloured eyes i've ever seen.

Ria that's spooky. Have you got a photo of the markings on her back? Looks identical. 😮

No i don't. Her back was mainly white if i remember right and the tail end same colour as her head and neck.

I picked Bonnie up for a rescue i was volunteering for at the time and phoned up to report that the hamster looks weird and seems to have some genetic faul bult looks otherwise healthy.

The rescue lady laughed and told me that she knew of hamsters with two different eyes but had never seen one and always wanted one.

Bonnie was adopted very quickly.

Lilith and Athena were a bit crazy but she's already knocked them out of the park, whole 'nother level of crazy.

While I was talking to her last night she began to fall asleep while up on the bars. I put my finger through to prop her up so she didn't fall. She ended up gripping my finger.
