But is there any other solution for this other than changing her cage?

She has been asleep this morning and got up at 10:30 to do this - she is still doing it now two hours later!

I am a bit worried as to why she is doing this - I don't know what the reason is so I don't know what to do to get her to stop!

As others have said, she is unlikely to stop unless you remove the tunnels.

It may be she feels exposed and unsafe so blocking the tunnels is a safety issue.

A different cage set up would be preferable however, as others have suggested, perhaps remove the tunnel house thing on top and give a large wooden hide for her to sleep in

You could take the tubes and this round thing on top away and then connect the two cages directly with as short a tube as possible. You can close the spare holes off with caps.

That way she can get from cage to cage and shove her substrate through if she wants to with little fuss and without getting herself or anything she wants to move, stuck.

Long tubes are a problem with little ventilation and difficult to clean when used for anything else than running through them as i'm sure you're aware of.

You can always use them in her playpen or area.

Yeah I have done that, thanks everyone for the help.

I was reluctant to do it because she likes running through them so much, but if it makes her happier overall then she will have to get used to it.

I am getting a wooden house for her as well, so that she has a big dark place to make a nest.

The Ikea detolf is also great, if you find a way to make a lid (tons of DIY on youtube...)

I've had a dozen hamsters in Habitrails. Some do this, some don't. But eliminating the lenght of tube between the two cages tends to stop them from doing it.

I have NO idea what on earth she thought she was doing, but she ended up

Had several dwarfs do this. It looks blocked but they cab definitely get through. Normal behavior imo. Its funny how their habits change over time and their personalities. Great pets!

Jim, do you still keep hamsters in Habitrails or have you progressed to suitable enclosures by now?

I'm asking because i've rescued hamsters from living in Habitrails and they've blossomed once they had space to run around in and were able to interact with humans.
