Muffin's Thread
Hi everyone! I have a new hamster called muffin! She is mostly white but parts of her are black and her head is completely black. She is absolutely adorable and as soon as she has settled in a bit I will be putting up photos of her.
When I first put her in her upper cage she went to sleep there for a bit and then at some point woke up and went down into her lower cage. Unfortunately, it seems she has forgotten that she can get back up into her upper cage and she is staying in her small lower one. It isn't really a problem for now as her wheel is there (she loves it already) and I put food in there for her. She has slept a little bit in the corner of the cage. The only problem is that she had no water bottle there. I put it there now, but I don't know if she will notice it or how often she needs water. I think at the moment I am just going to leave her be as she is very stressed out.

Re: Muffin's Thread
Hello Muffin! She sounds lovely. Looking forward to see some photos of her once she's settled in.
You could put a water bottle in each cage.
I'd also give her a nice big bottomless house to make a cosy nest in. The little plastic ones are ok as a hide in a sand pit, well, that's what i think anyway.

Re: Muffin's Thread
Muffin is really cute! she slept all day in a section of tunnel which is understandable and she has a little stash of food there already. I connected her large tunnel nest to where she slept and i think she will use that for tonight .
I got her into a tunnel and put her in a box earlier to play with her a bit, she is really tame already and doesn't mind hands at all! I managed to get a few photos of her but they are a bit blurry, she is a very skittish little thing.

I think she looks adorable and i will be playing with her as much as I can!

Re: Muffin's Thread
Muffin is really settling in now. She is completely used to her cage now and enjoys coming out into her playpen for a run around.
I picked her up yesterday and she looked around a bit and then took a leap off my hands! we shut the door and I grabbed her straight away, but she is just so slippery! I had my hands completely around her at least 5 times, and she just slipped out and ran off! We caught her in the end and managed to get her back in her playpen, but it took a couple of minutes!
Muffin actually seemed fine afterwards and when I picked her up a few more times just for a short amount of time she was ok to sit there for a bit. She won't eat on my hands yet though.
She is a very strange hamster and surprisingly, a bit disorganised! She won't hoard food at all except if I give it to her and when it comes time to go to sleep, she just curls up with no bedding! She chose her blue pets at home house for a nest the first day and she has used that ever since but she never bothered to put any bedding in at all. when I offered her paper bedding she took it though, and she soon some sort of nest although she made no effort to make it!
As she was using her blue house as a toilet as well, I filled it with chinchilla sand in the hope that she would use it for a toilet and make a nest in a corner somewhere. I checked on her this morning, though, and she was sitting in the blue house even though it was full of chinchilla sand and again, she had not bothered to get any bedding!
I will be taking some more photos of her this afternoon and putting them up on this thread.

Re: Muffin's Thread
Muffin by the door to her cage. I was going to enter her to the hamster of the month competition but I couldn't get her to sit still for long enough.

Re: Muffin's Thread
She looks so sweet at the door of her cage, good to hear she’s settling in well.
