Re: Which breed for me?
for first timers it doesn't really matter although it does feel good giving an older ham a home that might not get adopted for a while. Whereas young ones will find a home quickly.

Re: Which breed for me?
I'm a first timer and I settled on a little boy syrian from a breeder after lots of research, mainly because I just wanted the one, and was a bit worried about a tiny little dwarf escaping out of my hands and never catching it. Plus I wanted something tamer and more handleable...if that's a word. Anyway, he's not really a cuddler but I still get to hold him every day and he's no trouble at all. I vote Syrian!

Re: Which breed for me?
Yep I agree, if you can, I think the best option is a syrian from a breeder!

Re: Which breed for me?
I've never owned a Syrian, but I adopted a Russian Dwarf yesterday and he has been out his cage quite alot and been exposed to quite a bit for his first 24 hours and the little guy is bomb proof. He nipped once, when my hubby woke him up and just took him from his bed, but he didn't break the skin and after that he was fine. I think it was because he was disorientated rather than moody. But that was one small nip out of the 8 times he has been taken out. He just comes out and starts bobbing along, happy as larry to be exploring. He's met the cats, under supervision (cos if you don't introduce them the cats will just go nuts trying to get to him when your not there) and has been on the bed while I've watched telly.
