Noises while on wheel and burrowing
Hello everyone! Newbie here and I have a question that I’m hoping you can assist with.
I purchased a new hamster this past Saturday and she seems to be settling in well. No bar climbing or biting or anything like that. The only thing I have noticed is she seems to make a squeak/chirp/sneeze (I can’t really tell the difference to be honest) when she is on the wheel or when burrowing. She doesn’t make any of these noises when she’s just laying around or sleeping. She also will jump off the wheel, run like a crazy hamster, burrow and then hop back on the wheel.
I’ve had several hamsters when I was younger and don’t remember ever having one make a noise like this. I read online several things regarding squeak/chirp/sneeze but nothing specially when they are running on the wheel or burrowing. She doesn’t have any discharge from her nose or eyes and she is eating and drinking fine. I was even able to give her a treat today and pet her for a couple of seconds.
Is the noise she making just because she is happy and having fun or what?
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you!!

Re: Noises while on wheel and burrowing
HI & welcome to HC.
Hams can make some funny noises sometimes, when burrowing or inside their houses isn’t unusual but I can’t say I’ve heard any of mine making a noise when running in the wheel! If she’s fine in herself though I doubt it’s anything to worry about.
