It's been a while
Hello everybody,
I've not been on here for a while due to trying to adapt to a really disruptive 3AM work schedule four days a week as well as looking after my birds and hamsters, my mom who has to self isolate for the duration of the pandemic and some pretty severe allergic reactions to sanitizers...
Nanuk, Baldrick and Norman are all ok, they continue to be massive characters in tiny bodies.
I caught Baldrick chewing loudly on a Whimzee this morning and captured his moment of gnawing pleasure...

Hello. Baldrick looks so cute there chewing his Whimzee - he’s such a character
Yes the world semi post lockdown is still very strange. Must be a nightmare having a reaction to hand sanitiser. I am guessing it could be different brands as the main ingredient in most of them is alcohol - although I guess it’s possible to be allergic to alcohol. The hand gel makes me jump up and down saying ow ow for a good 2 minutes as I have eczema so it really stings on the raw bits! Luckily I rarely have to use it as mostly at home still so just do hand washing. How have you managed to get round it? I believe you can make your own out of 70% rubbing alcohol and aloe Vera gel. Can’t remember the proportions but they had to be just right so there was enough alcohol content.

Re: It's been a while
Thanks Serendipity7000, he's very sweet and definitely keeps me on my toes!
I managed to narrow it down to the brand of sanitizer they are using where I work...I was getting these really bad rashes on my legs that would itch and burn. The rash would only appear on days I was at work and on my off days I'd be absolutely fine. Unfortunately they are not only using it as hand sanitizer but also to wipe down and spray all surfaces!
I spoke to our health and safety officer and he confirmed that when they switched to using this brand coincided with when I started getting the reactions. I don't think it is the alcohol as I'm fine with other brands of sanitizer so it must be one of the other ingredients...a scent or colourant perhaps.
My wife has in fact mixed a sanitizer for us to use at home just as you said...it is actually very nice and doesn't dry out your skin as much.
It is winter here and Baldrick remains hyper-active while Nanuk spends a fair amount of time out and about and Norman is maintaining a strict 'hibernation' regimen, coming out only to eat his veggies and run a bit very late at night.

Baldrick looks like he is looking up at the camera after being caught doing something he shouldn't be lol. The blurry bars in the front of the camera adds to the effect.

Haha yes, that's Baldrick's default expression! He has a talent for looking guilty

Hi Vierville. Good to hear you are ok and the hamsters too. I was wondering how things were when I read about South Africa’s figures the other day. Such bad luck to have a nasty reaction to sanitizer too. Will your work offer an alternative?
Baldrick and his whimzee is so cute, great photo.

Glad you're back Vierville. Lovely photo of Baldrick enjoying his Whimzee.
It's a weird existence living with the Unknown as no one really knows how this pandemic is going to affect the future.
Our lovely hamster friends are oblivious to it all and i find myself spending more time than ever with our hamsters.

It is a very very wierd existence right now Ria P. I, too, have found that I'm spending more time with the hamsters and our two birds. In fact I often find myself looking forward to the time I spend with them, precisely because they are totally removed from all the realities and uncertainties of the world out there.

Re: It's been a while
Baldrick make me tea splutter, that's a proper "yeh, what you looking at" face!!!
I have been shielding and also have terrible eczema. I have hand eczema for the first time and I think it is all the extra hand washing and santiser. Ive found the body shop hand sanitiser and also whatever little bottles aldi have by the tills dont sting or make my hands dry out as much. Ive been putting heavy moisturiser and gloves on over night which seems to be taming it all down a bit.
My pets have been lovely during this all though I feel with me in the house constantly now they dont get as excited to see me anymore!
