Default Whimzees dog chews

I was just about to order some of these for my dwarf, having heard how much they are appreciated by some of our furry friends on the forum. Then I noticed, on the website I was using, that they were recommended for dogs over the age of 9 months and more than 5 lbs in weight. It made me think - are they really safe for tiny hams? Is anyone able to advise, please?

I believe that might be due to the risk of a smaller dog choking on one, or potentially due to the caloric content (they contain 2900 calories/kg). A hamster obviously is not going to choke on a Whimzee, and hopefully wouldn't be eating enough to get too many calories from them, though I would remove or restrict them if a hamster is eating large amounts. They contain glycerin which makes them taste sweet so it's possible a hamster might eat more than they should. My hamster has hers all the time as she only nibbles it, but I have to restrict Whimzees for my gerbils as they would eat too much at the expense of real food if they had the chance.

All my hamsters have a Whimzee to nibble on at all times. I buy the xs toothbrushes and they are good for their teeth and claws. Hamsters often hide a Whimzee in their nest or behind a wheel so just because they disappear doesn't mean that they've been eaten.

I agree with the others, my hamsters absolutely love a Whimzees XS toothbrush, they treat them like treasures, moving them from one nest to the other and hiding them behind their wheel, in the sandbox or in a tunnel.

I think the warning may be to do with choking hazards for smaller dogs maybe. I can't imagine there being anything harmful in a Whimzees for a hamster.

Get them, your hams will love them!
