There's always a message in my ads and a pic of my car sticker.

I find you so inspiring. I love how much you care for hamsters. It is thanks to you the local pet shop no longer says dwarf hamsters should live in pairs. You have done so much to help hamsters.

Thanks but the dwarf hamsters shouldn't live in pairs thing isn't in any way down to me. I complain about it to whoever is unfortunate enough to ask me "if they can help" but i can't influence shop policies. There are many people campaigning and creating a lot more noise than i do but my motto is that doing something is better than doing nothing.

Around 17.20 i sat quietly and very still about 2 meters away from Finley's tank and watched him foraging. He had a long drink from his bowl and sat on the bendy bridge nibbling on his nibble stick. The washing machine was spinning loudly and the microwave was peeping which did not bother Finley in the slightest.
But, as soon as i talk to him or approach his tank he runs off!

I'm curious how you're going to finally get Finley to warm up a bit, at least not run away. What else could you do? I've heard a number of myths about Robos, and don't know what to believe other than they are lightning fast xD

That sounds familiar. Orko is fine with thunder and lightening but not me!

All i can do and have done is to accept him for who he is. My dwarf hybrid Ozzy was like that all his life. A happy hermit who had no interest in humans or out of cage time.

At least i know that Finley is not a scared hamster or he wouldn't come out with all the household noises going on around him.

Ok, i no longer rescue and rehome myself but help out in other rescues by collecting rodents, keeping an eye on ads etc.

It didn't feel right to be without an emergency cage that could also double as a hospital cage if ever needed. I gave Clarissa's away. Had to be small and without climbing opportunities so got a 64l rub yesterday and meshed the lid only. It fits on the small table in the spare room and gives the table a purpose again.

It's a bedsit but has all the basics. The Lidl cardboard box on the left is full of Kaytee and offers shelter, the wheel is a10in and would do any species temporarily, corner sandbath/toilet plus a couple of hides and tunnels and that's it i'm afraid.

The same day i collected a couple of mice for a rescue, they took in a very traumatized dwarf who had been living in a broken cage. The cage was broken because dogs and cats kept knocking it off a table trying to get to the hamster. The dwarf could have escaped from the cage but didn't. She must have known that her chances of survival were zero.

Dwarfie is safe now and appears to be ok physically. I think that she will find a forever home because there are people who are willing to give a hamster like that all the love and care they never had without expecting anything in return.

If i had the space to give her a home i'd adopt her today. It's not going to happen though because i do not have the space and six hamsters in the family is quite enough.
