Re: Foster hamsters
He sounds like he is assertive which is good. It means he is comfortable with you as he does this rather then hide.
You say you have had Finlay for a while. Is 2 months a while for a foster hamster? I imagined many would not be adopted for several months.

Re: Foster hamsters
Lola was here for 3 months but sometimes they get adopted very quickly. It just depends who enquires. The majority of people are unsuitable. I word my ads in a way that makes it clear who shouldn't even enquire. I used to be more polite but i just can't be bothered with people who have tiny cages, hamster balls and believe that Robos should live in pairs.

I think wording the adaverts that way will help stop timewasters.
I love the way you set up cages.

Re: Foster hamsters
OOO lovely set up. I agree that being clear in your wording is best. It is just so so so depressing how few people actully give their pets decent sized accommodation.

Re: Foster hamsters
I know. It is so sad. I've even included a photo of his tank stating that this tank is temporary and too small to give people a visual guide. Next thing, they try to buy it off me!
But then, and i never know when, the Robos get lucky and someone sends me a photo of a well set up detolf or similar suitable habitat. Those people also have the attitude of " i'm not fussed if he wants to interact with me or not, i just want to give him a good life".
Finley hasn't got lucky yet but at least he's here and has a wheel he likes.

Re: Foster hamsters
Just had an idea.
As mentioned before, i'm no longer rescuing and rehoming for a number of reasons.
I have a lot of surplus hamster stuff, cages, wheels, hides etc and have some on Gumtree but no interest. Rescues i know don't need donations because rehoming is incredibly slow.
So, next Sunday i'm going to do a boot sale locally. Not only to hopefully move some stuff on but to raise awareness by writing odd signs.
A 27cm wheel is cheaper than a 21cm one with a 17cm wheel the most expensive. I hope that people are going to querie that so i can explain that all species can run on the big wheel but a Syrian can't run with a straight back on the medium one and the small one is ok for a small Robo or a mouse but a waste of money really.
See if i can get some messages out there if nothing else.

Re: Foster hamsters
This is a fantastic idea. I wonder if you could advertise this on some hamster type places so hamster people will go and buy your items. I love the idea of making the smaller wheels more pricey then the bigger ones.

Re: Foster hamsters
I don't do social media, at all. So don't advertise on sites like that, only places like gumtree, shpock and freeads. I have sold surplus cages before and for more than what i'm asking for now but for some reason it has gone quiet.
I don't need the money but could do with the space they take up. I just assembled another storage unit to go under Clive's table to hold some boxes with things and wheels.
I suppose i'm also taking measures to stop myself from taking in more hamsters.....and then watch them die.
