Re: Foster hamsters
I called him Finley and gave him a health check before i put him in the foster tank. He's a year old and appears to be in good health.

Re: Foster hamsters
New boy Robo Finley is incredibly shy or maybe he's scared. He's a "fast forward" kind of ham. Tomorrow, late at night, i'll switch the fairy lights on and sit quietly in the semi dark, well away from his tank to hopefully get a glimpse of him hamstering about.
He is active at night and uses the wheel. I purposely half hid his fresh food but then again, there is no such thing as hiding food from a hamster. They will sniff it out. His tiny plate was empty in the morning.
I know that he's physically fine because i checked him over but there was a lot of squeaking and racing around when i tried to pick him up from the playpen.
Will be interesting to get to know Finley.

Re: Foster hamsters
Romy has not been out and about as much as she used to. I found a tiny speck of blood on the substrate in her house which of course, set off the alarm bells.
Her genital area looks red but not in an infected or inflamed way, if that makes sense. The two hamster vets my hamsters see are fully booked till next week but one of them is going to ring me soon as she has a space.
My dwarf hybrid Edwina had the same problem on and off. Antibiotics made no difference but Metacam helped a lot.
I'm giving Romy a dwarf hamster dose of Metacam until she can be seen by the vet.
Should this get any worse, i'll make an emergency appointment with whatever vet available.

Re: Foster hamsters
I really hope Romy gets better soon. It is really good you have metcam so Romy will not be in any pain.

Re: Foster hamsters
I checked Romy just now while spot cleaning her tank and everything looked fine. Very strange. I took a photo earlier to show the vet should Romy look normal when the vet examines her.
She's so tame and easy to check over. I suspect an internal tumor or cyst rather than an uti or infection. I just have to wait and see what the vet says and take it from there.
I'll go to Argos tomorrow and get a night vision camera. I need to know if she's active at night or not.

Re: Foster hamsters
The vet asked me to weigh Romy and she weighs 78g!!
She carries food in her pouches which needs to be taken into account.
