Our four male Syrians have different personalities but are all fairly early risers and all want out of cage time. I think they animate each other and may be more reserved if they'd be only hamsters. Maybe.

I often look at rescues and they usually say the dwarf hamsters come out during the day. It may be a dwarf trait then.
How cute the Syrians copy each other.

Re: Foster hamsters
When I had two female dwarfs (separate cages of course), they used to be in sync and would often come out at exactly the same time during the day. I think they did sense the other's activity.

Yes, i find that with the Syrians. When one free roams and runs on a wheel on the floor, the one in his cage will go and run on his wheel as well.

Re: Foster hamsters
Romy was out and about earlier when she heard our voices, no doubt to check out the mealworm situation.
She took them from my OH's fingers nicely and ate them sitting on top of her cork log.
She went back to bed opposite her house. Typical dwarf. They're not like Syrians who love their houses.

Re: Foster hamsters
Yes, she looks happy enough. I just topped up her food and she must have heard or smelt it. Next thing she was at her water bowl with full pouches. Can't see her in the corner so she must have gone to another hoard and nest.

She looked healthy when she was rescued. I'm starting to wonder if she's quite a young hamster. She has that new, shiny and fluffy look about her and her nails are still short.
I had her out on the futon earlier. She walks into a ball but then immediately tries to dig her way out which is a normal reaction. On the futon she was running around, climbing and not comfortable. She is fast which is also typical for a young hamster. I scooped and picked her up a few times and she's fine with that and then put her back in her tank.
Sofar i've concluded that she's comfortable in her enclosure but not outside of it. Hmm, i'm trying to figure out how she wants to live her life.

Re: Foster hamsters
It does make sense for her to be young. You are doing such amazing work with her getting to know her likes and dislikes.
