Romy's loving it in there.

Last night all she did was eat and pouch. I refilled the mushroom twice.

Tonight she's playing. It's almost like she wants to do everything at once. Runs on the wheel then dives down a tunnel and surfaces on the other side of a ladder, then runs from one hide to another and back to the wheel inbetween.

She took a couple of mealworms from my fingers nicely without trying to bite or snatch.

I am so happy to hear how well Romy is settling in. She is beautiful. Ria, you are so amazing. You have many hamsters lives. You should be so proud of that.

I am so glad the lady brought her to you and saved her. The person who was threatening to throw her in the river sounds horrific. You do sometimes here of a hamster who has been found outside after someone just let them go or dumped them somewhere, but to throw them in a river. Ugh.

Does she have a name yet. The set up looks amazing by the way - mushroom food bowl is a great idea.

Edit - just saw she is called Romy Very appropriate and a lovely name.

Go for the Chinese They are not easily available and this one needs a home with someone who knows what's what. It's a temporary situation as you'll be rehoming one of them soon. You'll find the time for one extra - on this unusual occasion! Any idea how old Romy is?

I am so pleased that Romy has been rescued. It makes me so sad how some hams are treated and how they are seen as disposable. What an awful start in life she has had. Thank goodness she is now in your loving care until her safe forever home can be found. She looks such a poppet.
Like serendipity I would suggest you go for the Chinese ham. Rabbit is such a joy! X

Thank you Stanza and cloudy for the compliments.

Serendipity, i called her Romy because the name is very similar to that of the lady who saved her life.

Muffin tub woman told kind lady that she had had her for a few months. A few months could be anything but probably not more than two to four considering she wanted rid of her.

I have come across people in my line of work who got rid of pets when they run out of money to buy food.

A rescue friend had a similar experience recently when she took in three babies. The owner had no idea where the babies had come from......

It is nice to name her after the lady who saved her. I do wonder, with it being a bank holiday, if Muffin lady thought there would be lots of people around and it was a good way of "shifting" the hamster by saying she'd be thrown in the river if no-one would have her (emotional blackmail). But so lucky the nice lady was there - because many people would have just ignored or blanked muffin lady or not be interested in hamsters.

I would love to do what you do, but we live out in the sticks and it's hard enough to find rescue hamsters to adopt one never mind a few! And I'm not sure it would go down well at home - I'm already accused of taking over the house with hamster stuff, and we have a teenager who needs "space" as well.

I've thought about the chinese hamster but have sadly concluded that i don't have a permanent space.

Lola is in the adoption tank in the fireplace and Romy is in the adoption tank on top of the coffee table hence have no table at the moment.

Even if i'd rehome one of them and rehoming is very slow at the moment, i'd have no permanent space for the spare Hamster Heaven.

On the trolley under Rory's table would be ok for a temporary foster hamster but not permanently.
