Re: Foster hamsters
Aww, brilliant news Ria. When they are screeching, you really do wonder how can this possibly improve but it can and it does. So good to hear he is settling in and becoming a confident hammy.

Re: Foster hamsters
Hmm, young Rory tried to climb out of his Samla and jumped up the sides which told me that he needed more space so i put him up for adoption.
People wanted to adopt him but were turned down because their cages weren't big enough.
Deep down i felt that i wanted to keep him but didn't have the right cage or the space if i wanted to keep the Samla in place for other foster hamsters.
While eating my fajitas i browsed through the local Gumtree ads and saw a brand new ad for a hamster haven going for free!
Got in touch, jumped in the car and picked it up.
Now what. Must be fate, maybe Rory is meant to live here?

Re: Foster hamsters
Rory has moved into his Hamster Haven. After a good sniffing inspection he went to sleep in his house which has an en suite (one can hope).
He didn't approve of the tube without an exit so i replaced it with a Pringle one that has an exit hole on the side.

Re: Foster hamsters
I love the way hamsters have of telling you they don't approve of certain things, so you have to change them.

Thank you. Rory seems to feel quite at home here already.

Re: Foster hamsters
Aww I am so pleased to hear that you are keeping Rory. He is such a pretty ham! He reminds me of our first ham called Hammy.
Ria, you kindly why boo was on metacam in a previous post, I am sorry not to have replied before now. I have no idea where time is going at the mo. Boo has lost his two top teeth and whilst the vet was examining him he discovered a tumour in his tummy around his kidney. We were so upset and are now feeding boo a soft diet and are keeping a close eye on his quality of life. He has started to gradually to eat less and is sleeping more (he is 19 months old approx) but still runs in his wheel and digs in his sandpit etc. His ears are up and his eyes bright when he does come out to see us so we think he is doing ok for now. It’s heartbreaking but we are doing all we can to keep him happy and comfortable x

I am so sorry to hear of Boo's tumor but he couldn't have a better home and will be well looked after.
It makes sense to keep him on the metacam to make sure he's comfortable.
It's probably more distressing for you than for Boo who seems to be happily going about his hamster business with you doing all the worrying but that's the way it is for us people who care so much for our little furry friends.
