The wheel sitting in the sandbath didn't work for Robo Gerald. He chucked the sand against the wheel and kept jamming it. Soon as i leveled out his sand he appeared and jammed it up again! No idea why because he likes running on this wheel. It can be very hard to figure out a hamster's actions but i'm a firm believer that they are trying to communicate something to us.

I've moved the sandbath forward and placed the wheel on the substrate then made a little hide/platform from a bamboo toast rack by cutting all but four bars off and adding a piece of plastikoted cardboard as a top.

The cardboard tube didn't work either but he uses the grass tunnel which has four ways of getting in and out.

He likes the little plastic house on top of his burrowing area. It had to be something lightweight but i cut the bottom of the house out so he can dive down into the substrate.

See what he says about the new sandbath/wheel arrangement........

Little foster Robo Gerald got himself into a right strop today.

I jammed a pebble between fence and sandbath to stop the fence from moving towards the wheel.
Gerald immediately appeared to check out the gap between wall and fence which must have moved a couple of mm.
He started kicking the substrate about, squeezed himself through the gap and pawed at the wall until i moved the fence a couple of mm back so he could get through the gap easily.

Another one who would have a "do not tresspass" sign up if he could.

Clearly those couple of mm make all the difference! He is funny - certainly knows what he wants.

That is so true!
Today i had to relocate his water bottle because he had decided that he needs to burrow underneath it. Of course he appeared immediately to check what i was doing but stayed calm this time. I guess he approved.

I put some linseeds into Ralph's little log today.
Ralph must have thought that its far too easy and boring to simply walk up to the log to retrieve the seeds........
