Re: Foster hamsters
I may be wrong but I thought only Campbells or Hybrids had the back stripe thing, not purely bred WW.

Ah ok thanks, so he's a hybrid. I still can't tell the difference. He's a big, chunky dwarf and like a kid in a sweetie shop. Doesn't know what to nibble first.
He's yet another ex-Spelos/hamsterball boy.

Re: Foster hamsters
Winter Whites have the dorsal stripe too. They also have a diamond on the head which Campbell's don't have. The hamster's still a hybrid though because Winter Whites don't come in that tan colour.

Thank you for clarifying. What's a diamond on the head?

A black diamond shaped spot where the dorsal stripe ends on the head. Bramble has one (she's a hybrid but looks like a Winter White):

Re: Foster hamsters
Clarissa looks like Bramble.
I always thought that winter whites come in a light colour as well as the natural. So the little brown ones like Bramble and Clarissa look like the winter whites and all the other ones that are bigger and come in various colours have more of the Campbell genes?

Re: Foster hamsters
Yes, they do look alike. They could be sisters!
Winter Whites also come in a silvery grey and a lighter grey. This website shows the different colours: Winter Whites.
Campbell's and hybrids come in lots more colours.

One is beige and one black and white but they aren't mine. I enquired about the hamster and was told that they were trying to rehome two mice as well. I contacted someone who takes them in and knows a lot about them and then collected all three rodents but they've moved on now.
